This is an argument collection page.
Current stabile configuration is 32 bit Ubuntu version 12.04 - Long Time Stable
32-bit
- Kernel 3.2.0-XX
- GCC version 4.6.3
Pro
- 32 bit is the recommended by Ubuntu
- Mobotware runs on 32-bit
Contra
- Newer versions of Matlab runs on 64 bit only
64 bit
- kernel: 3.8.0-21-generic
- GCC:4.6 is OK (4.7 do not compile with boost)
Pro
- Newer versions of Matlab runs on 64 bit only
- Some parts of ROS runs 64-bit only (guidemark calibration)
- Many (students) has installed 64 bit on their laptop
Contra
- Not all parts of mobotware compiles well on 64-bit - AURS auview and aupcltest requires -fpermissive in Makefile (effect unknown)
